Member Spotlight – Lorenzo Castro Jr.
Callsign: KK6YCM (USA).
QTH: Manteca, California (Northern).
When were you first licensed ? Oct. 2015. Yup, I’m a newbie!
How did you become interested in radio? I have been interested in radios ever since I was a little kid. Me and my two brothers were seldom found playing outside without our Walkie-Talkies. Was very intrigued how we were able to communicate through these devices.
Favorite Radio Activities and Locations ? As of right now, my favorite radio activities our joining in on my local clubs net meetings through my handheld and through Echolink which I have just recently been introduced to. I also enjoy going to the monthly club meetings where we meet up in person. This is where I think I learn the most about Amateur Radio Operations.
Future Hobby Plans or Goals ? In the near future I hope to be a well rounded Ham. Soon to follow, I would like to be able to set up a home base station and antenna.
Member of any radio organizations or clubs ? Manteca Amateur Radio Club (K6MAN), Manteca, CA.
Describe some of your favorite field radio experiences: Since I am still a newbie to Amateur Radio, I do not have any to speak of at this time but hope that changes here shortly. Hoping to attend my clubs Parachute Mobile weekend.
Transceivers and Antennas: As of right now, I only have my handheld Baofeng UV-5R V2 with a Nagoya 771 Antenna.
Note from Jonathan VK6JON – Lorenzo, welcome to the hobby of amateur radio. I hope you’re having lots of fun and making plenty of contacts. Echolink is an excellent avenue whilst you’ve only got the Baofeng handheld.
